Thaikhun Metrocentre VIP Launch Event

Have you been to the Intu Metrocentre in Gateshead lately? The Qube and Yellow Quarter have been redeveloped and now include an array of restaurants serving dishes from across the globe. From Italian, burritos, burgers and Thai, the new-look area has a buzzing atmosphere and everything you need for a fantastic night out.

I was invited to the VIP Tasting Event at Thaikhun back on 30th March. With my glad rags on and my camera in hand my sister and I went along to share in this great opportunity for a first look and taste of the Intu Metro Centre's newest eatery!

( I must apologise for my tardiness here, I've only just had the chance to write this up due to moving my studio for Dizzy Mss James. )

Heading inside the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to find it had been decorated to represent a rustic Thai style. With a open kitchen you feel as if you are invited to share in a more interactive dining experience. Just as if you were on the streets of Bangkok and not in a shopping mall in the North East of England.

The staff are lovely and friendly instantly putting you at ease and making you feel welcome. You are then asked you if have any dietary requirements (always a good sign if you are veggie) allowing them to point out which dishes from the menu are best suited to your needs.

We started off the evening with a cocktail, what else!  The Drinks Menu has a great variety of wines, beers, cocktails and special Thai drinks. My *Coconut Mojito was just delicious it came in a cute takeaway style cartoon with a paper straw. I was a little worried that the cardboard carton would leak but I was assured that they had a special inside coating and they were fine. The paper straws however did not last they quickly got soggy and became unfit for purpose so we ended up swapping for a standard straw.

Both my sister and I are vegetarian which allowed us to order a selection of the vegetarian options and share them between us. For starters we had *Too Mann Khao Poo ( sweetcorn cakes £4.50 ) and *Por Pia Soo Tofu ( fresh tofu rolls £6 ). Both were beautiful, I'm loving all things sweetcorn at the minute and the tofu rolls were so clean and refreshing to the pallet. For the main deal we given the *Geang Kew Wan Pak ( Thai green vegetable curry £9 ) and *Phad Thai Jay ( tofu phad Thai £8 ) to try out. The mains were lovely and flavoursome but the stand out dish had to be the Thai green curry it was A-MA-ZING!

The Metrocentre has defiantly been lacking in places to eat for quite some time now especially from the point of view of a vegetarian. I always feel that I have limited options and with the rise in burger places you really do get sick of the good old 'veggie burger'. I absolutely love what they have done with this new food, entertainment and leisure area. And with new and exciting places like Thaikhun popping up I will defiantly be returning for a bite to eat after shopping, a meal before the cinema or even a fun packed girlie night out!

  1. For successful corporate events Chicago, the first step is to find an appropriate venue. You need to find a place where there is proper breakfast or lunch can be arranged. And it is wise to shortlist a couple of venues before finalizing the best one.
