Thaikhun Metrocentre VIP Launch Event

Have you been to the Intu Metrocentre in Gateshead lately? The Qube and Yellow Quarter have been redeveloped and now include an array of restaurants serving dishes from across the globe. From Italian, burritos, burgers and Thai, the new-look area has a buzzing atmosphere and everything you need for a fantastic night out.

I was invited to the VIP Tasting Event at Thaikhun back on 30th March. With my glad rags on and my camera in hand my sister and I went along to share in this great opportunity for a first look and taste of the Intu Metro Centre's newest eatery!

( I must apologise for my tardiness here, I've only just had the chance to write this up due to moving my studio for Dizzy Mss James. )

Heading inside the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to find it had been decorated to represent a rustic Thai style. With a open kitchen you feel as if you are invited to share in a more interactive dining experience. Just as if you were on the streets of Bangkok and not in a shopping mall in the North East of England.

The staff are lovely and friendly instantly putting you at ease and making you feel welcome. You are then asked you if have any dietary requirements (always a good sign if you are veggie) allowing them to point out which dishes from the menu are best suited to your needs.

We started off the evening with a cocktail, what else!  The Drinks Menu has a great variety of wines, beers, cocktails and special Thai drinks. My *Coconut Mojito was just delicious it came in a cute takeaway style cartoon with a paper straw. I was a little worried that the cardboard carton would leak but I was assured that they had a special inside coating and they were fine. The paper straws however did not last they quickly got soggy and became unfit for purpose so we ended up swapping for a standard straw.

Both my sister and I are vegetarian which allowed us to order a selection of the vegetarian options and share them between us. For starters we had *Too Mann Khao Poo ( sweetcorn cakes £4.50 ) and *Por Pia Soo Tofu ( fresh tofu rolls £6 ). Both were beautiful, I'm loving all things sweetcorn at the minute and the tofu rolls were so clean and refreshing to the pallet. For the main deal we given the *Geang Kew Wan Pak ( Thai green vegetable curry £9 ) and *Phad Thai Jay ( tofu phad Thai £8 ) to try out. The mains were lovely and flavoursome but the stand out dish had to be the Thai green curry it was A-MA-ZING!

The Metrocentre has defiantly been lacking in places to eat for quite some time now especially from the point of view of a vegetarian. I always feel that I have limited options and with the rise in burger places you really do get sick of the good old 'veggie burger'. I absolutely love what they have done with this new food, entertainment and leisure area. And with new and exciting places like Thaikhun popping up I will defiantly be returning for a bite to eat after shopping, a meal before the cinema or even a fun packed girlie night out!

The Beauty Event With House of Fraser

A few weeks back I attended The Beauty Event with House of Fraser at Intu Metrocentre alongside other bloggers and VIPs. I love attending events at the Metrocentre as they are always such fun so I knew I was in for a treat! On arrival I was shown to my seat which had the most delightful little pink macaroons placed upon them. I was also lucky enough to be given a small bottle of prosecco with a cute straw to enjoy during the event.

The lovely Jane Cunningham of the infamous  British Beauty Blogger hosted a live Q&A session and offered all the advice you need to start your own successful beauty blog.

I honestly only got into make-up the in the last few years, before that I wore very basic make-up. I first put lipstick on for the first time 3 years ago and now there's no stopping me. I love a bit of colour on my lips!

I found the talk very inspirational and encouraging. I would love to use my blog as a way to share my new found love of beauty products. Even more so that I'm now classed as an older blogger being over 30 (when did that happen!).

After the Q&A Urban Decay and Bobbi Brown experts took to the stage giving us a demonstration. Each expert then showcased their wares using various make-up techniques and all the latest trends. Above is the finished makeover result for the Urban Decay demonstration of smokey eyes.

I was particularly interested in what Urban Decay had to offer. I was instantly drawn towards their vibrant colours and cruelty fee vegan cosmetics. I absolutely loved what products were available to buy. The above set of brushes are made from recycled bottles and completely vegan.

Vegan, with an edge and completely on trend, well done Urban Decay I will be defiantly back for more!

Food Hack - Quick And Easy Way To Peel Ginger

I use a lot of ginger in my cooking and in my drinks, its one of my essential ingredients in my cupboard. However I do struggle when taking off the skin with a knife, I always end up cutting most of the ginger off with it! And if I'm honest I'm just a little bit rubbish when using a peeler. This quick and easy food hack will save you time, avoid taking off any excess ginger and is safer than using a blade to peel especially due to its difficult shape. Why not give it a go..?

This post has been sponsored by Walkers Tear 'n' Share a thicker cut crisp with the unmistakable taste of Walkers. It comes in a innovative bag that turns into a BOWL! It's simple design is easy to use just open, share and enjoy with friends and family.
