Turtle Bay - Newcastle Upon Tyne

Well I was super excited when Turtle Bay invited me back to review their spanking new restaurant in its full glory. Turtle Bay is fast becoming my favourite place to visit in the North East. Its full of colour, spice and has such a great atmosphere. I first had the pleasure of experiencing a taste of Turtle Bay when I was invited to their VIP Press and Blogger Launch Event back in February (read more about that here). If you love a bit of jerk, reggae and cocktails than this is the place for you.

Obviously I started off the evening with cocktails I mean it would have been rude not to! The drinks menu is a must for any cocktail lover. It's packed full of tropical thirst quenching delights that will leave your taste buds tingling. I went for the *Island Ice Tea and the *Koko Colada which is now my favourite cocktail. The combination of rum, pineapple, coconut and cream was so smooth and refreshing. The Turtle Bay Happy Hour runs until 7pm then starts up again at 10pm. All cocktails are £6.95 each or 2 for 1 during this time.

For Starters I opted for the *Sweet Corn Fritters and *Hot Hot Pepper Roti (£5.10 each) to share amongst two. The Sweet Corn Fritters are my Turtle Bay addiction, you have to try them! Both were spicy, tasty and gone in no time, I'd highly recommend.

For the main show I went for the *Run Down served with rice, peas and dumplings (£9.70) with sides of *Roti and *Cheesy Jerk Fries (£2.40 each). I got to sample the Run Down at the launch event and I have to say it tasted even better this time around. The fries are delicious and a great accompaniment for the main and the roti was great to soak up that unique caribbean sauce and they were so fluffy.

At this point I couldn't even consider a pudding there was just no room and I was struggling to move. I personally have always gone for more starters or sides than desserts or puddings. However a sneaky shot of *Wray & Nephew 63 % rum my have been snook in (it's a little bit lethal).

Please do check out their Pudding Menu as it has a fantastic selection of zesty, spicy and rumtastic dishes. All puddings are priced at £4.85.

Opposite is Jack who was my waiter for the evening. Like all the other staff at Turtle Bay he is friendly, enthusiastic and helps make your dining experience that little bit more special. The excellent service and friendly atmosphere is a massive part of Turtle Bay and I have to applaud them for it.

Being veggie there isn't too many options for your main meal and there's only so much Run Down a gal can eat. I would love to see some more veggie/vegan dishes added to their menu. However I will defiantly be back for more.

Overall I have a super smashing great evening, fantastic food, gorgeous cocktails and lively atmosphere.

Thank you Turtle Bay for a GREAT night out!

  5. I love the sound of those sweetcorn fritters, I've been lusting over the cocktail menu for a while too - I think I could make a meal out of just those delights. Definitely need to pop along to one of these, they seem to have appeared EVERYWHERE, but there's one just at the end of my road in Brixton
